Parliamentary Candidate Hopeful for the Okaikoi North Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kenneth Kuranchie has disagreed with the disapproval of ‘human relations’ used during parliamentary primaries of political parties.

According to him, he has listened to some intellectuals destroy ‘human relations’ used in politics and does not wholly agree with them.

In an interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ with Afrifa-Mensah, he explained that just as one attracts worker bees with something sweet, “as politicians, we also need to support hard work with some money.” He added that refusing to do that is like inviting someone to an event and refusing to give them water.

He noted that the kind of human relations used by politicians, especially during primaries of political parties does not induce delegates’ to vote or influence their decision. To him, it is just a form of appreciation towards the work and sacrifices of delegates over the years.

Citing the Patrick Lumumba example, he indicated that the Kenya lawyer refused to part with a dime when vying for a parliamentary position because he believed himself as principled. “But his opponent parted with his dime and won the election.”

Ken Kuranchie believes some changes are welcome in the political systems of the country and “if we need to do something we need to look at institutional changes.”

“Being principled and dying on the street is not wise. If you have to do something to effect change, do it,” he said.

It has become a regular phenomenon to hear rumours of politicians paying some monies to delegates during their party primaries. Some citizens have condemned this act insisting it results in delegates electing the wrong people to lead Ghana.
