The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has assured citizens applying for the voter identification card that it will use all resources at its disposal to ensure that they (applicants) are registered.

According to the commission, it will use its Mobile Teams to compliment the work of all registration teams that faced network challenges on Sunday as it works around the clock to solve the challenge at hand.

Deputy Chair of the EC in charge of Corporate Service, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare addressing the press at the Let the Citizen Know initiative monitored by Happy 98.9 FM said, “Due to network challenges, some centers could not start the registration exercise on time or did not do any registration at all as planned on Sunday.”

He proceeded to apologize to all applicants who suffered any form of inconvenience from the technical challenges on Sunday.

Assuring applicants of a smooth registration exercise, he said, “The Commission will make up for the hours lost by deploying more of its Mobile Teams to speed up the registration of applicants.”

Dr. Asare, touching on the registration in the electoral areas stressed that as long as an applicant lived in the electoral area, the fellow could register at the nearest center.

He said, “It is unfortunate some potential registrants were of the view that because the registration teams have left the centers close to their homes, they could not register and vote in the upcoming election.”

The Deputy EC chair explained that the figures being churned out by the Commission to the public were provisional ones and promised to announce the final figures once the registration and all other processes have been completed.
