Editor of the Patriot Newspaper, Peter Bamfo, has said that we must move into elections with discussions around important issues and not jokes.

He made this comment in reaction to the Minister of Information’s ‘Papa No’ comment made in parliament over the weekend.

Speaking on the special edition of the Happy Morning Show dubbed ‘Editors’ Take’, Peter stated that Ghanaians expect leaders to focus on the issues and avoid jesting.

“I have heard leaders of both political parties state that this year’s politics be based on issues. The jokes have become too many in our politics. This is why we are still at where we are. Our leaders that we choose to bring us development are now engaged in jokes.

Let us focus on issues. And I believe that it is a grand scheme of the government of the day through its spokesperson to decide that this one [Papa No] favors them so they are going to run it. Of course we saw the Kalyppo one in 2016. It is important that moving into the elections, we will deal with serious issues”.

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah caused a stir in Parliament on Friday night after using the term ‘Papa No’ during his submission as the house approved five agreements to securitize gold royalties of the country through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Agyapa Royalties Limited. However, the minister has said that his comments was not meant to offend anybody.

The term ‘Papa No’ gained popularity when actress Tracey Boakye alleged in a video that she was in the same relationship as Mzbel with a man she described as ‘Papa No’.
