Election 2020: Ningo-Prampram is not about party colors anymore – Alex Martey

The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Ningo-Prampram constituency, Alex Martey, has posited that the popular notion that the constituency is an NDC stronghold is flawed.

According to him, the race for the Ningo-Prampram seat is a done deal for him as the chiefs and people of the land have rallied their support behind him contrary to what political analysts are saying.

“The people of Ningo-Prampram say they really don’t need to make a choice between those of us contesting for the seat. They say they have already found who can lead them”.

Alex Martey made this statement in an interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Afrifa-Mensah, host of the Epa Hoa Daben political show.

The politician furthered, “The decision on who will lead the constituency is not about which party or party colours you adorn but it is about who can bring development to the constituency”.

He revealed that prior to every election, the chiefs and people of Ningo-Prampram offer their blessings to one candidate to lead them as MP and this time around, they have opted for him.

When asked what the incumbent had done for the constituency, the presidential staffer furthered that “Sam George has only used his tenure as MP for Ningo-Prampram to project himself and has not done anything for the constituency”.

Since the start of the Fourth Republic, the NDC has remained the dominant party in the Ningo-Prampram constituency. In 1997, Enoch Teye Mensah succeeded Stanley Basil Bade Carboo (both of the NDC) as Members of Parliament (MPs).

After five terms in office spanning a period of 20 years, Mensah was dethroned in an internal primary by Samuel Nartey George ahead of the 2016 general election.

Going into the 2020 elections however, the NPP is confident of breaking the NDC’s dominance in the constituency by winning the seat.
