Senior Sports Journalist Owusu Bempah has highlighted the difference between Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko and Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly, citing a significant disparity in the two teams

In an interview on Happy Sports, Owusu Bempah said, “A big club like Asante Kotoko is half a century behind Egypt’s Al Ahly in terms of sporting, technical, managerial, infrastructure, and general organization.”

The comment comes amidst Asante Kotoko’s ongoing efforts to restructure and revitalize the club.

Recently, Kotoko announced the appointment of Kwasi Appiah as the new Head of Sporting Affairs, signaling a significant step in their bid to modernize operations.

Appiah, who doubles as the head coach of the Sudanese national team, transitions from his role as Technical Director within the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC). His appointment follows a notable achievement in leading Sudan to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite challenging conditions, including a civil war and the need to play matches outside the country.

In the reshuffled hierarchy, club legend Malik Jabir assumes the role of Technical Director, while Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, formerly part of the IMC, will focus solely on his duties as head coach. Both Jabir and Ogum will report directly to Appiah under the revised structure.

This strategic realignment comes at a crucial time for the club, as Kotoko recently ended a four-game winless streak with a hard-fought victory over Aduana Stars.

The team will then shift focus to their much-anticipated Ghana Premier League showdown against fierce rivals Hearts of Oak on Matchday 13 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
