Minister-designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has emphasized the importance of deliberate efforts to improve sanitation and cleanliness as a cornerstone of Ghana’s eco-tourism drive.

Speaking on the potential of eco-tourism, Madam Gomashie described it as a global phenomenon that generates significant revenue for countries that prioritize it. “Eco-tourism is what the world is driving towards, and it’s important that we take advantage of it.” she stated during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointment Committee.

She, however, raised concern about the impact of global warming and other climate challenges on Ghana’s nature-based parks and tourist sites, warning that these issues threaten their beauty and long-term sustainability.

Madam Gomashie called for a collective effort to promote cleanliness and proper sanitation nationwide. She encouraged the need for public education and collaboration across sectors to achieve this goal. “Education cannot be left to one sector alone; all of us must be involved in keeping our country clean, promoting eco-tourism, and creating a clean and healthy environment,” she said.

She expressed her eagerness to partner with the relevant agencies, to work toward a shared vision. “It will be great to work with the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology collaborate with allied agencies to see how best we can achieve this together,” she added.
