Colleagues from Absa Bank Ghana’s Finance and Legal team have donated braille laptops to the visually impaired students of Okuapemman Senior High School to enhance their technological skills. This initiative is part of the bank’s ongoing Citizenship and Colleague Volunteerism efforts. The donation aims to equip the young students with tools to succeed in a technology-driven world.

Speaking at the event, the Headmaster of the school, Rev Richard Koranteng Afari, revealed that the institution currently has an enrolment of 3,500 students, including 49 visually impaired learners. He expressed gratitude for Absa Bank’s continued support.
“We are striving to teach visually impaired students to use technology in this age, and so I want to commend the Finance and Legal team of Absa Bank for their support over the past three years,” Rev Afari said.

He also highlighted that the school admits 20 visually impaired students annually and shared their aspiration to expand infrastructure and technology to accommodate up to 60 students in the future.

Representing Absa Bank at the event were Mkushi Munatsi, Executive Director of Finance; Priscilla Yeboah, Head of Citizenship; Richard Boadi, Head of Financial Decision Support; and other members from the finance and legal teams.

Addressing the students, Mkushi Munatsi said, “I want to encourage you to strive for good things in life, no matter your circumstances. Life can always be better. This is not the last time we will visit you. We look forward to seeing the foundations we build together.”

Madam Regina, a visually impaired teacher, expressed her appreciation on behalf of the students, noting that previous donations from the bank had positively impacted academic performance. She mentioned that the donated items from last year contributed to the students’ success in the WASSCE exams, with many achieving 5As.
