According to the club’s Chairman, Oliver König, the partnership is worth about €6 million and will jointly be owned by Ghanaian footballer Frank Acheampong.

The Partnership was officially announced in Accra on Tuesday, May 23 at the Kempinski Hotel.

Speaking at the event, President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku lauded Accra Lions for engaging in such partnerships and encouraged other Premier League clubs to do same in other to promote Ghana football.

“Looking at the infrastructure and investments being made by people like Lothar Mathiaus and Frank Acheampong, we can say the future is bright. The future of Ghana football being bright is also not only about Accra Lions. I will urge everyone who has a passion for football to also join other teams with their knowledge and resources so we can push Ghana football to the World”.

Lothar Mathiäus spoke highly about the talented pool of players stationed in Ghana, which informed his decision to invest.

“I know partnering with Accra Lions is the right decision. I love football and want to give back to society. During your training session yesterday, I noticed how professional and organized the club is because I didn’t expect this”.

Following his retirement from professional football, Matthaus worked as a trainer in Austria, Serbia, Montenegro, Brazil, and Israel from 2001 to 2011.

Accra Lions on the other hand have been a strong force since gaining promotion to the Premier League, two seasons ago.
