Former Deputy Sports Minister under the NDC government, Joseph Yamin, says the National Sports Authority (NSA) should have been truthful to the public on their decision to close down the Accra Sports Stadium for maintenance works.
The NSA announced it intended to close down the stadium in order to carry out works on the pitch.
However, the Accra Sports Stadium which is supposed to undergo renovation works as indicated by the NSA has been rented out for a musical concert.
According to Yamin, the NSA has a mandate to also generate revenue for the government as managers of the facility and they must have communicated to the public in that manner.

He explained that the Accra Sports Stadium is not solely for sporting activities but also other commercial activities which can generate money for the government.
“They should have been able to tell the Public the truth not tell a lie. The Stadium is not only for football. The NSA needs to generate other source of revenue. If the NSA will get more money from events they will consider that too”, he told Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports on Happy 98.9FM.
“The Stadium is government property and not for the clubs. They should have just told the truth and not lie about renovation”, he added.
