The Deputy General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has stated that Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum would have been a more suitable choice as a running mate for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia than Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO).

He suggested that Dr. Adutwum’s expertise in education and his calm, thoughtful approach to policy-making could offer a stronger foundation for tackling national issues.

He argued that, while NAPO is capable, he lacks certain qualities that Dr. Adutwum could bring to leadership. He highlighted the importance of serious, well-rounded leaders with the vision and dedication needed to address the country’s pressing challenges. In Gbande’s view, politics should be grounded in thoughtful decision-making rather than empty rhetoric, with a focus on nurturing leaders who prioritize nation-building over hype.

He emphasized the need for a more strategic approach when selecting leaders for significant roles, calling on political stakeholders to consider individuals who embody the values and commitment necessary to drive progress. According to him, the ideal running mate should not only support immediate campaign goals but also demonstrate a deep understanding of the country’s long-term development needs.
