The President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), Charles Osei Asibey, has congratulated Kirsty Coventry on her election as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In a statement, President Osei Asibey praised Coventry’s achievement, saying: “This is a historic moment for the Olympic Movement as the first woman, first African and the youngest to become IOC President, and we are thrilled to see a highly respected and accomplished athlete like Kirsty Coventry take the helm of the IOC.”

Coventry, a former Olympic champion and a renowned advocate for women empowerment and youth development, was elected as the IOC President Elect at the IOC Session in Greece.

President Osei Asibey added: “As a former Olympic champion and a respected leader in the sports world, Kirsty Coventry brings a unique perspective and wealth of experience to the role.

“We are confident that her presidency will be marked by innovation, inclusivity, and a commitment to promoting the values of Olympism.”

The AFA President also expressed his optimism that Coventry’s leadership will provide new opportunities for Armwrestling to grow and develop as an Olympic sport.

“We look forward to working closely with President Elect Coventry and the IOC to achieve our shared goals and promote the sport of Armwrestling across Africa and the world,” President Osei Asibey said.

The Africa Armwrestling Federation (AFA) is the governing body for Armwrestling in Africa, and is committed to promoting the sport and developing its talent across the continent.
