The Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, has warned that the region will no longer tolerate substandard road construction works by Newmont Gold Ghana Limited.
The Minister issued the warning during an inspection tour of roads constructed by the company in Ntotroso, Gyedu, and Wamahinso, all within the Asutifi North District.
According to her, most of the roads built by Newmont in its five operational communities, Ntotroso, Gyedu, Kenyasi No. 1, Kenyasi No. 2, and Wamahinso have deteriorated within a few years due to poor construction standards.
She emphasized that under her leadership, no poorly executed road project will be accepted anywhere in the region where Newmont operates. The company, she said, must ensure that all future road works meet quality and durability standards.
“We can no longer accept roads that deteriorate just a few years after completion. The people of Ahafo deserve better,” she stated during the inspection tour.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi North, Hafiz Dauda, who accompanied the Minister, also expressed concern over the poor state of the affected roads.
He noted that the communities urgently need asphalted roads, as heavy mining activities have made the routes busier and more prone to accidents.
Mr. Dauda added that several of the existing roads, constructed only a few years ago, have already developed potholes, posing safety risks to motorists and pedestrians.
