Communications Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Charles Amofa has denied reports that the Black Meteors’ coaching staff has not been paid since their appointment, ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco this month.
To this effect, the Ministry issued a press statement, denying these claims, urging the public to disregard them.
Speaking to Happy FM’s Joe Debrah on Wamputu Sports, Mr. Amofa clarified that all outstanding bonuses for technical members of the Black Meteors have been paid, except for their bonus for defeating Algeria, which the Ministry is actively working to ensure prompt payment.
He further stated that the Ministry assured that the team’s daily allowances as they camp in Egypt are being paid, and the players have been informed about the bonus structure for the tournament in Morocco.
Black Meteors on the other hand have been drawn into Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Guinea, and DR Congo for the Africa Under-23 AFCON, which kicks off on Saturday, June 24. Their first game is against Congo on June 25.
