Richard Jakpa, the third accused person in the ongoing Ambulance case, has taken legal action by subpoenaing former Health Ministers Alban Bagbin and Alex Segbefia, Chief of Defence Staff Lt. General Oppong Peprah, and additional individuals to testify in court as part of the ongoing trial. On Tuesday, July 9, Richard Jakpa concluded his testimony and was directed by the court to proceed with calling his witnesses.

In response, Jakpa informed the court that he intends to call eight witnesses, including some who will require subpoenas to compel their testimony. Among the eight witnesses Richard Jakpa plans to call, two notable figures will be subpoenaed to testify, Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, and Alex Segbefia, a former Minister of Health.

The judge observed that the subpoena order issued for the witnesses, including the Speaker of Parliament and the former Health Minister, did not specify the production of any relevant documents or evidence that the witnesses were expected to present in court, and thus requested clarification on this matter. In a new development in the case on Thursday July 11, Richard Jakpa’s legal team announced that they would also be subpoenaing two high-ranking military officials, Chief of Defence Staff Lt. General Thomas Oppong Peprah and Military Secretary Air Commodore Adu Gyamfi, to testify in court.

The case has been adjourned to July 18, pending the testimony of these additional witnesses.
