Artisans urge government to fix AfCFTA implementation challenges in Ghana

The Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer for the Association for Small Scale Industry, Osman Ibrahim has urged the government to fully support artisans by providing them with the necessary tools and equipment to improve their work across the country.

He said if the government pays close attention to the needs of artisans, it could contribute to stabilizing the nation’s currency.

While training is important, Mr. Ibrahim noted that artisans often lack the essential tools required to apply their skills effectively.

He believes that equipping artisans properly would enable local products to meet higher standards, ultimately benefiting the country.

Mr. Osman Ibrahim expressed concern about the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), acknowledging that while its goal of promoting trade among African countries is commendable, the policy is not functioning in Ghana as intended.

He pointed out that artisans face numerous challenges when trying to sell their products in neighboring African countries.

Although the AfCFTA’s secretariat is based in Ghana, he questioned the nation’s production output, noting that progress in this area has been inconsistent.

Mr. Ibrahim stressed that with clear goals and a well-defined plan, Ghana could achieve significant success through the efforts of its artisans. He, therefore, urged Ghanaian leaders to critically evaluate and address the issues hindering the effective implementation of the AfCFTA.
