Former Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has dismissed allegations by President John Mahama regarding the financing of the Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project, describing them as misleading and politically motivated.
The project, which covers a 33km dual carriageway, has a total contract sum of $346.4 million. To support its financing, government secured a $200 million facility from Afreximbank, which was never intended to cover the entire project cost.
Responding to Mr. Mahama’s concerns over why the Afreximbank loan appeared depleted without the road being completed, Asenso-Boakye explained in an interview that the facility was only a partial financing instrument, with the remaining costs to be covered through government budgetary allocations.
He urged the public to disregard the former president’s claims, stressing that past NPP government was committed to transparency and steady progress in delivering critical infrastructure projects.
