Member of Parliament for Ashaiman Constituency, Ernest Norgbe has disclosed that residents who were brutalized by armed men in Ashaiman would be compensated.

According to him, a committee would be engaged to come out with the level of compensation because,” you cannot compare the compensation who has a broken arm that of someone with twisted arm so the committee would be set up but for now what we need is to go to the grounds with these soldiers to calm tension down.”

Some military personnel invaded Ashaiman-Taifa and Tulaku on the dawn of March 7 in an attempt to arrest persons suspected of murdering a young military officer, Trooper Imoro Sherrif and ended up brutalizing people in the area and also arrested 184 persons, 150 of whom have been released as of March 9.

When asked if the youth in the area would retaliate the military invasion he said,”How will you do that?that would mean you are also taking the law into your own hands, what the military did was not good, we are all complaining about it but I don’t think the residents of Ashaiman would do that.”

“This is a situation involving weapons and we don’t have those things to engage the military in any banter. It is not something I would subscribe to as an MP” he added.

He urged youth in the area to accord security personnel the respect they deserve in order to avoid unnecessary confrontations,”I have told them we are providing leadership so nobody should attack any officer in uniform whether police, army or anybody.”

The Member of Parliament also revealed that the committee together with the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command will pay a visit to the Ashaiman community on Thursday, March 16.
