Workers of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) have threaten to halt operations in the region, if government fails to intervene over their staff bungalow’s demolition.

According to the aggrieved staff, some private developers have unlawfully demolished parts of the bungalows without any notice.

Speaking to the media over their grievances, the vice chairman of the Local Union of GWCL, Emmanuel Okpoti Kodiah reiterated their commitment to fight for the interest of the staff as they will not relent on their fight for the bungalows.

“We shall not relent, we will not give in, this property will remain the property of the GWCL into the foreseeable future. And the five (5) bungalows that have been taken, we will stand to resist it”.

The Vice Chairman has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to restore the properties, warning of a shutdown of its water supply operations if demands are not met.

“If the walls that have been pulled down are not put up again, within 48 hours we shall shut down our operations in the Ashanti region”.

The workers have called on president Akufo- Addo, president elect John Dramani Mahama and the Asantehene to intervene.

“We call on the president, president elect and the Asantehene to rise to the occasion, to have this stop, because we are determined as a union because nothing will stop us from protecting these bungalows and asset of ours”.
