The Kwahu Nkwatia community is rallying behind Mr. Derrick Yeboah, the former Assistant Headmaster in charge of academics at Nkwatia Presby Senior High School, following his recent relief of post and transfer to another school by the Ghana Education Service (GES) due to an alleged assault on a form two student, Diana Mensah.

At a press conference held in Kwahu Nkwatia, Daniel Kwame Adgyapong, Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and the Justice and Security Committee of Kwahu East District Assembly, recounted the incident.

He acknowledged that, upon investigation, there was physical contact between the assistant headmaster and the student but emphasized that it was not as severe as portrayed on social media.

He emphasised that the visible bruises on the girl’s face were makeup applied by the student herself to gain public sympathy.

Mr. Adgyapong also revealed that the individual who had falsely claimed to be a military officer from the 64th Battalion Infantry and had initially supported the student’s claims had been apprehended and was currently in police custody for impersonation.

He expressed gratitude to the Nkwatia police officers for their thorough and professional handling of the case. He called upon the media, particularly Atinka Media, to exercise caution and verify information before publication.

Nana Osei Safo Kantanka II, the Kwahu Nkwatia Adontenghene and Chairman of the Nkwatia Educational Committee appealed to the Ghana Education Service to reconsider its decision. He urged the GES to reinstate Mr. Derrick Yeboah to his former position and, if possible, return him to Nkwatia Presby Senior High School. Nana Osei Safo Kantanka II emphasized that the school had witnessed significant improvements in terms of discipline since Mr. Yeboah’s tenure.

The incident in question occurred when Diana, a second-year student at Nkwatia Presby Senior High School, alleged that she had been slapped by the Headmaster of Academics for leaving campus without proper authorization, resulting in partial blindness.

Diana’s claims led to the GES’s initial decision to relieve Mr. Derrick Yeboah of his duties and transfer him to another school.
