The Asutifi South District Assembly, in collaboration with traditional leaders, has destroyed a plantain farm in Hwidiem believed to be a hideout for criminals, in a bid to protect residents and ensure public safety.
According to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Benjamin Assabil Donkor, the plantain farm located along a popular footpath had become a hotspot for criminal activities. He revealed in an interview with the media that individuals using the path were frequently attacked by criminals wielding knives, who robbed them of mobile phones, money, wallets, and other personal belongings.
Mr. Donkor further disclosed that in some cases, the criminals went as far as threatening to kill their victims if they resisted handing over their possessions. The DCE emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to security and noted that plans are underway to install lighting along the stretch to enhance visibility and deter further criminal activity.
The exercise forms part of a broader effort by local authorities and community leaders to improve safety and restore peace in the area.
