A reformed armed robber has implicated the police in his confessions. He alleged that the police sell bullets and rent out guns to aid them in their robberies.
In an interview Pastor Nyansa Boakwa on Happy FM’s Nsem Pii Show, he confessed that the police keep some of the guns they retrieve from robbery arrests and sell or rent them out to other armed robbers.
“Sometimes when the police retrieve guns from robbery arrests, they conceal some and report the remaining ones.”
He also said that there are some police officials who have certain individuals robbing for them. He asserted that he knows one police commander who is complicit in these crimes.
“I even had one such policeman who called to meet me at Accra Mall when he heard I was quitting armed robbery. I took someone with me to deter him from harming me.”
“He took my phone from me in anger because he knew I had their numbers stored. He thought I would give out their numbers since I was quitting the robbery.”
“I went to an Accra based radio station to report the incident and have them air my story so that he will return my phone to avoid being exposed. They asked me to go for a police extract before they could help me.”
The former armed robber further said that apart from the guns, some policemen also sell bullets to armed robbers.
According to him when these policemen return from their duties and are unloading the magazines of their guns, they conceal some of the bullets when no one is looking and later sell them to armed robbers.
