The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has unveiled a comprehensive plan to tackle the high cost of living in Ghana, with a focus on revolutionizing the public transportation sector. Speaking to the media at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Sunday, August 25, he emphasized the need for innovative solutions to address the country’s economic challenges.

As part of his vision, Dr. Bawumia announced the introduction of electronic vehicles (EVs) for public transportation, aiming to reduce the financial burden on citizens and mitigate the environmental impact of traditional fossil fuel-powered vehicles. The initiative will commence with the deployment of public electronic buses, designed to reduce living costs and ease traffic congestion in urban areas.

The NPP-led government, under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, is already in advanced negotiations to pilot 100 electronic buses, marking a significant step towards modernizing Ghana’s transportation infrastructure. Metro Mass Transit, a key stakeholder, is working diligently to secure charging terminals to support the fleet, ensuring seamless operations.

Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence that this groundbreaking initiative will not only boost the economy but also provide tangible relief to Ghanaians struggling with the high cost of living. By embracing eco-friendly technologies and investing in efficient public transportation, the NPP government aims to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for all citizens.
