Black Stars AFCON budget: There will be chaos in parliament if Sports Minister peddles lies – Ras Mubarak warms

The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has said that expectations on  Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, to appear in parliament to give vivid accounts of what transpired when the Black Stars participated in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, can only be calm if the minister give facts.

According to him, there will be pandemonium if the minister fails to touch on the budget for the Black Stars, what went wrong which contributes to Ghana’s poor performance at the tournament in Egypt.

Isaac Asiamah is set to appear before Parliament today to reveal the 2019 AFCON budget as well as answer questions relating to Ghana’s poor performance at the tournament.

There were questions raised concerning the budget for this year’s tournament prior to the start of the competition by fans and the media but the sector Minister failed to disclose the budget.

Unconfirmed reports had suggested that the Ministry had budgeted $15 million for the competition.

Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports’ with Ohene Brenya-Bampoe Ras Mubarak said, “We are expecting the minister to tell us what went wrong, how much we spent and the budget we took there. Those who advised the minister to keep the budget in a secret didn’t help him because it gives people the chance to speculate.”

He added that he hopes the supporters who are still living in Egypt weeks after the team had been kicked out of the tournament are not there on the expense of the ordinary tax payers’.”I pray to God that those supporters who are still in Egypt are not spending tax payers’ money because there’ll be serious implications if that’s so. We must not allow for our monies to be misused this way, we shouldn’t allow the minister to waste our money.”

He advised the minister to give nothing but the facts when he appears in the chamber today. “The tournament has ended so what business does the supporters have still in Egypt? I will advise Hon. Isaac to give us facts when he comes to parliament because if he does otherwise there will be chaos. He should be careful.”
