Municipal Chief Executives (MCE) for Prestea Huni Valley, Dr. Isaac Dasmani, has pledged to direct adequate resources to help restore hope in victims of the recent Bogoso explosion.

Dr. Isaac Dasmani said victims of the explosion are currently being attended to and fed.

According to him, they will be transferred to a newly acquired facility once works over there is completed.

Speaking in an interview with Don Kwabena Prah, host of Happy98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben socio-political show, the MCE for Presta Huni Valley said, “Our main concentration is to help the affected families of the explosion. Initially when the incident happened, we took them to Parish hall where we cared for and fed them. Now, we have a facility given to us by Golden Star FGR and we’re working to develop everything there. Once it’s done we’ll relocate everyone there temporarily until the reconstruction is done. Over there at the new facility, the activities are about 80% complete and we hope to move them as soon as possible.”

He further disclosed that about 857 persons in nearly 377 households are currently under the government care.

The Bogoso explosion occurred on Thursday, January 20, after a motorcycle collided with a truck filled with explosives along the Bogoso and Bawdie stretch in the Westeen Region. The spark set the truck on fire which resulted in a resounding blast, causing the destruction of the entire township.

Although the number of fatalities and casualties are not yet clear, about 17 persons are feared dead and about 180 people were said to be injured from the explosion.

The Deputy Director-General of NADMO, Mr. Seji Saji Amedonu also indicated that the total number of displaced persons is 954.
