Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician Maame Tiwaa, widely known for her decades-long work with the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo band, has been confirmed dead in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
According to information reaching HappyGhana.com, the celebrated vocalist passed away at dawn, though the cause of her death has not yet been disclosed.
Maame Tiwaa was one of the most recognisable female voices in Ghanaian gospel music.
As the lead female singer of Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo, she contributed to numerous hit songs and live ministrations that shaped the spiritual lives of many Christians across the country. Her powerful, emotive vocals and stage presence made her an indispensable part of the group’s identity.
Over the years, Tiwaa featured prominently on songs such as “Wo Haw Ne Sen?”, “Yen Nka Nkyere Yen Agya”, and several of the group’s worship medleys.
She was also known for her uplifting live performances, where she often moved audiences to tears with her passionate delivery.
Her passing comes as a major blow to the gospel industry, especially following recent public appearances where she stood in for the ailing Yaw Sarpong, including receiving a Lifetime Achievement honour on his behalf earlier this year.
