The Campaign Spokesperson for Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Eric Amoako Twum, has clarified that the Abetifi Member of Parliament’s recent reference to “GHC 2 million” for 26,000 polling station executives was in old Ghana cedis, not the current currency.
His explanation follows a trending video showing the former Minister for Food and Agriculture addressing New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters, where he stated that in November 2024 he gave “GHC 2 million each” to 26,000 polling station executives in the Eastern Region.
Speaking on Happy 98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with Bismark Brown, Mr. Twum stressed that Dr. Acheampong was referring to the old currency, which, after redenomination, is equivalent to just GHC 200 in the current notes.
“You know when we changed our currency, a lot of people still haven’t fully understood the new denomination. So, when he says GHC 2 million, he actually means the old currency, which is GHC 200 now,” Mr. Twum explained.
