The previous mark of 3:44.20, set by Joseph Kemel in 1978, had stood unchallenged for nearly five decades until Mohammed’s blistering run .
The race caps a dominant stretch for Mohammed, who earlier this season claimed double gold at the Lone Star Conference Championships, winning the 800m (1:48.46) and 1500m (3:46.3).
His 800m time ranks third in school history, while his 1500m performance is now the fastest ever recorded by a WT athlete .
Mohammed’s recent results solidify his status as a contender for the Paris Olympics, though he still needs to trim his 1500m time to meet the qualifying standard of 3:33.50.
His next opportunity will come at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, where he aims to close the gap .
