The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced his “Buy Ghana First” policy, aimed at empowering local companies, especially textile manufacturers, to boost their market competitiveness.

Dr Bawumia shared insights from a working visit to the Volta Star Textiles Factory where he identified demand challenges hindering the factory’s growth.

Speaking to the people of Juapong in the North Tongu Constituency, Dr. Bawumia cited that his ‘Buy Ghana First’ policy focuses on stimulating demand for locally produced goods, ensuring stable market opportunities for businesses to flourish. The textile industry is vital to Ghana’s economy, with cotton yarn, cotton fabric, printed fabric, polyester fabric, blankets and bed sheets being major exports.

Bawumia emphasized that his policy prioritizes industries like Volta Star Textiles, fostering a conducive environment for growth. This initiative aligns with Ghana’s efforts to revitalize its textile industry, leveraging its rich heritage to become a hub for garment production in Africa.
