The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in an intelligence-led operation aimed at clamping down on criminal activities in Senya Beraku and its surrounding communities in the Central Region.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the operation, carried out on December 17, 2025, targeted three separate locations within the Senya Beraku enclave following reports of suspected criminal activities.

The police team first moved to Kukwado, a coastal area, where six suspects were arrested in possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other related items.

At another location near a cemetery, four suspects, including a female, were arrested at a yellow house. Items retrieved from the premises included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, locally distilled gin known as akpeteshie (laka), a 32-inch television set, and various brands of cigarettes.

The operation later proceeded to Awiaso, where three more suspects, including a female, were arrested.

Exhibits found at the hideout included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a toy gun, shisha, local gin, and a game pot. The police subsequently set the suspects’ hideout ablaze.

The 13 suspects arrested have been identified as Michael Essel, 23, Frederick Koranteng, 23, James Essel, 24, Jones Koranteng, 20, Daniel Essibu, 30, Kofi Abbiw, 28, Kofi Essibu, 57, Klotey Poree, 26; Bismark Sarbeng, 26, Kojo Otoo, 24, Thomas Quartey, 22, Gladys Jackson, 19, and Florence Adenue, 25.

The police say both the suspects and the exhibits are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
