Confederation of African Football (CAF) has congratulated Ghana on the successful organisation of the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).

Despite the dark cloud that was hanging over Ghana’s inability to host the biennial women’s competition following the delay in completion of refurbishment in the various hosting stadia, the West African country were able to pull off one of the most colourful tournaments in recent time.

Nigeria have emerged the champions of African football once again after they managed to beat South Africa 4-3 on penalties, following a goalless in 120 minutes of play.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s female football team, the Black Queens woefully disappointed as they exited the competition at the group stages after picking four points from a possible nine to finish 3rd behind Cameroon and Mali respectively.

The continent’s football governing body, CAF expressed their gratitude to Ghana for hosting a successful tournament in a letter dated December 7, 2018.

Below is the content of the letter:

Mr. Asante Alex
Deputy General Secretary
Ghana Football Association
Cairo, 7th December 2018
