The Central Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ACFOII Merinder Mary Attigah-Mensah, has visited the scene of the recent fire outbreak at the Kasoa New Market to assess the extent of damage and sympathise with affected traders.
A statement shared by GNFS on Tuesday, January 6 said ACFOII Attigah-Mensah was accompanied by the Kasoa Municipal Fire Commander during the inspection, she commended fire personnel for their swift response to the incident, noting that their professionalism helped to contain the situation and prevent further destruction.
The Regional Commander urged municipal authorities to establish interim fire posts in both the old and new Kasoa markets to ensure rapid response to future emergencies.
She also called for long-term preventive measures, including the re-demarcation of market spaces and the enforcement of improved fire safety standards to reduce the risk of future fire outbreaks.
The Member of Parliament for Ewutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Akunor, who was also present, praised the efforts of the emergency response teams and expressed concern over the recurring fire incidents in market centres.
She pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to strengthen safety measures and enhance fire prevention systems across markets within the constituency.
