The Safohene of Gomoa Fetteh Abura, Nana Kwasi Ampim Darko, has made an appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to personally intervene in the ongoing conflict in Bawku by taking direct control of the area and prioritizing development as a pathway to peace.

Expressing deep concern over the persistent violence in the region, the chief described the continued loss of innocent lives as a national disgrace that is damaging Ghana’s international image.

“The killing of innocent people is too much. It’s a disgrace to our mother Ghana,” he said.

Nana Ampim Darko called on traditional leaders nationwide particularly paramount chiefs to come together and offer constructive suggestions to help resolve the crisis. He stressed that unity and coordinated leadership are key to achieving lasting peace in Bawku.

In a related appeal, the chief urged the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, to temporarily close schools in the Bawku area, citing safety concerns for students. He warned that without swift action, more young lives could be at risk. “We must prioritize the safety of our children. If no action is taken, we risk losing more innocent lives—especially students.”

His comments come amid rising tensions in Bawku, which continues to draw national attention and calls for stronger, more targeted government action to address the crisis and its underlying causes.
