The National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has strongly condemned the shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque on Friday, December 26, 2025, describing it as a grave violation of Islamic principles and a threat to national security.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 29, the Chief Imam expressed deep concern over the violence, noting with alarm that the incident involved Muslims attacking fellow Muslims within a sacred place of worship.

He described the act as “an affront to Islamic sanctity, a deviation from basic civility, a tribute to outright impunity, and a serious threat to national security.”

According to Sheikh Sharubutu, the incident is linked to a long-standing dispute over the Volta Regional Imamship between Sheikh Ali Muniru and Sheikh Anas. He reaffirmed that Sheikh Muniru remains the legitimate Volta Regional Imam, with Sheikh Anas serving as his deputy.

“The selection of Sheikh Muniru was not imposed but emerged from extensive consultations and mediation efforts,” the Chief Imam stated, questioning why an issue he considers settled continues to fuel division and violence within the Muslim community.

Referring to both religious leaders as his “children,” he urged them to demonstrate unity, solidarity and cordiality in their service to Allah and humanity.

The Chief Imam also appealed to supporters of both factions to remain law-abiding and peace-loving in accordance with Islamic teachings. He further called on the Ghana Police Service to handle the matter with fairness and impartiality, cautioning that “selective justice will amount to injustice.”

Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attack, Sheikh Sharubutu reminded all parties of the Quranic call for unity and reconciliation: “The believers are brothers. So make reconciliation between your brothers. And fear Allah, so that you may receive mercy” (Quran 49:10).
