CLOGSAG declares nationwide strike from November 7 over unmet salary structure demands

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike set to begin on November 7, in response to the government’s delayed efforts in finalizing a new salary structure.

CLOGSAG had previously signaled its intent to strike in an October 22 statement, anticipating that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) would not meet the October 31 deadline to conclude the new structure. This move comes after the government’s failure to implement the agreed-upon salary framework, despite signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) over a year and a half ago.

In a statement released on November 4, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, described the targeted January 1, 2025 implementation date as no longer feasible. He expressed that CLOGSAG would cease further interactions with FWSC’s CEO, Benjamin Arthur, due to perceived bad faith in negotiations.

The association cites the prolonged delay in finalizing the new salary structure and other conditions of service for civil and local government staff as reasons for urging members to stay home starting Thursday, November 7.
