“Because of Coronavirus, people are supporting each other and i like that. Ghanaians have seen the need to love one another. Let’s hold our hands together and fight this virus as Ghanaians, this is the time we need each other’s support and it’s something we have started already, that’s great,” he told Dj Advicer on Ayekoo After Drive Show.

Shatta Wale also revealed that in the wake of the outbreak in Ghana he was the first guy to share hand sanitizers. “I have donated hand sanitizers to some of my fans to help combat the coronavirus. I did not want to make noise about it because this is not the time to pose and take pictures when you make donations. Coronavirus is serious and we must fight it with all seriousness”.

However, at a recent press conference in Accra, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, announced government’s intention to engage celebrities in the fight against coronavirus.

According to the Minister, government, as part of efforts to educate the public about the pandemic will appoint some celebrities as ambassadors.

Even before government contacts Shatta Wale to be one of the ambassadors to educate the populace about Coronavirus, the dancehall artiste served a notice he will not avail himself for the task if there will not be any financial gratification.

Globally, more than 50,000 people have died from the pandemic. An estimated 210,590 of the 1,007,657 people who contracted the disease globally have recovered.

In Ghana, 204 cases have been confirmed and there are fears the number will rise. As part of efforts to prevent escalation, a ban has been placed on public gatherings for 4 weeks, schools have been asked to shut down, borders have been closed to human traffic and selected regions in the country are currently under 2 weeks partial lockdown.

Shatta Wale is set to have a concert dubbed ‘Faith Concert’ – aimed at entertaining people during the lockdown.

The hour-long event will take place on Saturday, April 4, in the artiste’s home. He is, however, expected to stream the concert on his YouTube handle.
