An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail of GH¢200,000 each to two individuals accused of burglarizing the home of Lilian Kumah, the widow of former Deputy Minister of Finance, John Kumah.

Adams Sanogo, a trader, and Rabiu Falilu, a Senior High School graduate who allegedly received stolen goods, were each granted bail under strict conditions.

The court, presided over by Isaac Addo, ordered that both Sanogo and Falilu provide two sureties each. These sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and one must be a public or civil servant earning at least GH¢3,000 per month, with their pay slips endorsed by their respective departments.

Sanogo is accused of stealing money, electrical gadgets, and other valuables from Lilian Kumah. Along with an accomplice, Kwame Dunga, who is currently at large, Sanogo allegedly conspired to steal US$50,000, GH¢50,000, an iPhone 15 Pro Max valued at GH¢15,000, and other items from Kumah.

The stolen items reportedly include an Apple iPad worth GH¢15,000, a Samsung Z Fold phone valued at GH¢12,000, a Microsoft laptop costing GH¢7,000, a black school bag valued at GH¢400, and an Apple Watch. Both Sanogo and Falilu have denied the charges against them.

The police are currently searching for Dunga, Sanogo’s accomplice. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Ackom, the complainant, Lilian Kumah, resides in Achimota-Mile 7, Accra. Sanogo, who is a mobile phone dealer based in Adum-PZ and a resident of Kokoso, Kumasi, was apprehended following an investigation that began on December 29, 2023, after Kumah reported the burglary.

On July 24, 2024, the investigation led to the arrest of Falilu, who was found in possession of Kumah’s stolen iPhone 15 Pro Max at Jamasi in the Ashanti Region. Following Falilu’s arrest, he directed the police to Adum PZ, Kumasi, where Sanogo was also apprehended. Sanogo admitted to selling the stolen phone to Falilu and implicated Dunga, another mobile phone dealer in Adum PZ, who remains at large.

Both Sanogo and Falilu have been cautioned, charged, and brought before the court as efforts to locate Dunga continue. The case has been adjourned to September 3, 2024.
