The President of the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), Edwin Arthur has called on the government to strengthen its efforts in ensuring the safety and significance of the media in the country.

Delivering a speech earlier today at the Ghana National Association of Teachers Hall, he emphasized that the media, often referred to as the “fourth estate of the realm,” plays an indispensable role in governance. He stressed the need for the government to implement adequate measures to safeguard the rights of media professionals.

In response to the numerous challenges faced by media practitioners in Ghana, Mr. Arthur, in an interview with happyghana.com, highlighted the importance of a conducive environment to deter compromising behavior among journalists. He stated, “The government must ensure that journalists can carry out their duties without fear; they must have peace of mind. When journalists lack peace, they are unable to perform their roles effectively, which leads to compromise.”

The PRINPAG President noted that this is a responsibility of the government in this regard, while urging media professionals to uphold ethical standards and foster media literacy within Ghana’s media landscape.
