Cedi hits ¢10 to a dollar

General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has charged Ghanaians and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to give due credit to the ruling government on the cedi appreciation against the dollar.

Addressing the socio-economic challenges of the country in a press conference on Wednesday, December 21, 2023 at the party’s headquarters, Justin Frimpong Kodua admitted the devastating nature of the country’s economy in recent times and its adverse effect on livelihood.

He however indicated that following the plights and grievances of the ordinary Ghanaians, the party engaged with officials of the government to address the country’s challenges.

The General Secretary of the NPP reiterated that the outcome of the engagement is currently evident with the cedi appreciation and the reduction of petroleum prices among other notable developments

“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party had several engagements with government with the view to addressing the legitimate concerns to express. It is heartwarming that following these engagements with media, interventions put in place by the Akufo-Addo government are gradually yielding results and indeed we can now attest to it.

As evidence by all and sundry, the cedi has in the past week or two witnessed significant gains in value. Appreciating by some 53.7% against the American dollar as at December 15, 2022. This appreciation has been rightly described by many economic watchers as an unprecedented feat in the history of our country,” he noted.

Justin Kodua however, chastised the opposition parties for attempting to discredit the efforts of the government in resolving the socio-economic challenges of the country, and improving the living conditions of Ghanaians.

For him, the recent developments in the country’s economic structure and other social interventions come as the best Christmas gift for Ghanaians ahead of the festive period.

“Interestingly our political opponents as usual of them when blaming government policies for the cedi depreciation, are now saying we should not attribute the gains to the government interventions. So we ask if government can be blamed for cedi depreciation, then why can’t the same government be credited for the appreciation in the value of the cedi? Anyway we leave this to the judgement of you discerning Ghanaians and that’s typical of the NDC,” he added.
