Daasebre Dr. Twum Ampofo, the Nifahene of the Okyeman in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council of the Eastern Region, has commended Okyenhene, Ɔsagyefoɔ Amoatia Ofori Panin, for his tree-planting initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.

He highlighted that Okyenhene is the only King in Ghana committed to tree planting, consistently planting one million tree seedlings annually in the region since President Nana Addo introduced the Green Ghana Day program in 2020/21. Daasbre Twum Ampofo added, “Okyenhene’s impactful initiative arose from the country’s challenging battle against illegal mining, which has significantly contributed to the destruction of the forest reserve.”

He remarked that Okyenhene’s 25-year reign has been exceptional. Daasbre Dr. Twum Ampofo argued that while Ɔsagyefoɔ Amoatia Ofori Panin has undertaken numerous significant infrastructural projects, the ‘tree planting program’ stands out because it saves lives and preserves the environment.

The Okyeman Nifahene, who also serves as the Asiakwahene, announced that he would soon be planting ‘12,000 tree seedlings in the Nife Division’ to complement the over 1 million seedlings planted by Ɔsagyefoɔ Ofori Panin in 2024, aimed at restoring lands and forests devastated by illegal mining in the Akyem Abuakwa area. Daasebre Dr. Twum Ampofo shared this during Okyenhene, Ɔsagyefoɔ Amoatia Ofori Panin’s visit to the Nifa Division (Asiakwa) as part of his 25th Anniversary Celebration on the Ofori Panyin Stool.

In her remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly, Akosua Asabea Annoh, praised Okyenhene for his leadership and generosity towards his people. She said, “The reign of Ɔsagyefoɔ Amoatia Ofori Panin as Okyenhene has produced a President for Ghana, and through that, I had the opportunity to serve the people of Abuakwa South as their MCE and will continue to work hand in hand with Okyenhene to develop the area.”

Addressing the chiefs, elders, and residents of the Nifa Division [Asiakwa], the overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa State, Ɔsagyefoɔ Amoatia Ofori Panin, mentioned that Ghana is about to go to the polls to elect a new leader to govern the country for the next four years. He urged the youth to refrain from actions that might disturb the country’s peace before, during, and after the elections.

He emphasized that since the country transitioned from military rule to a democratic state in 1992, all elections conducted in the country have been successful. He expressed his strong belief that the 2024 general elections will also be transparent, free, and fair, enabling Ghana to emerge victorious at the end of the polls. He emphasized that since the country transitioned from military rule to a democratic state in 1992, all elections conducted in the country have been successful.
