Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has confirmed the passing of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
At a press briefing Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed that Dr Edward Kofi Omane‑Boamah and other passengers lost their lives in the Ghana Air Force helicopter crash near Obuasi.
The helicopter was carrying eight individuals, including three crew members and five passengers, among them the ministers, a presidential staffer identified as Samuel Sarpong, and the ministers’ security detail.
The crash involved a Ghana Air Force Z‑9 helicopter, which went missing shortly after takeoff.
According to various reports, the helicopter lost contact with ground control shortly after departing from Accra at approximately 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi.
Other victims onboard the helicopter were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC, Mr Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary candidate, Squadron leader Peter, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo.
