Spokesperson to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Boako, has questioned the decision by former President John Mahama to reply Dr. Bawumia when the latter did not mention his name in a viral video making the rounds.

Speaking in an interview Dr. Boako said, “Did Bawumia mention Mahama’s name? no, he never did. Mahama’s name was never up in his speech and so why come back and attack him? ”

The banter between the former President who is fighting for a comeback and the Vice President dates back to the run-up to the 2016 electioneering campaign.

The recent showdown, however, started when Mahama appeared to have ridiculed the government, especially Dr. Bawumia who is head of the Economic Management Team, over the challenges it is facing in managing the country’s economy.

His reference to the “series of economic lectures” has been interpreted as a swipe at Dr. Bawumia who spoke at numerous economic lectures during the 2016 campaign.
As was expected, Dr. Bawumia launched a counter-attack on the former President, by referring to him as the “incompetent one who wants to come back”.

The counter-attack has triggered a response from the former president’s camp who have asked Dr. Bawumia to “mature” and stop the reckless talk as he is no longer a “propaganda running mate” but rather an occupant of the office of the Vice President of Ghana.

It is in responding to the said advice that Dr. Boako is wondering why the former president’s camp will ascribe to themselves comments that did not mention the former president’s name.

“If former President Mahama was my brother, I would have advised him to stay away and not contest the 2020 elections because he has nothing new to offer Ghana”.

He noted that the NPP government is focused and will not be distracted by what the opposition says or does.

According to him, the successes chalked by the current administration are remarkable as no government has, within its first two years, rolled out better social and economic policies as is being witnessed currently.
