"Don't get on our nerves" – Ablakwa fires Freda Prempeh over Akosombo Dam spillage comments

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, is furious about recent comments by Sanitation Minister Freda Prempeh that residents of Mepe refused to relocate after several warnings by the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

At a forum organized by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Accra, Madam Prempeh blamed residents in the Lower Volta area for failing to move to higher ground as advised.

The minister indicated that residents in the affected areas were given extensive education prior to the Akosombo Dam spillage, which was ignored and has now resulted in the catastrophic outcome we have on our hands.

Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa reacted angrily to the comment, saying that the affected people should be treated with respect.

“We are distressed, we are depressed, and we are devastated, and they should stop these things because it is getting on our nerves. We have had enough of their blatant lies. She should tell us when, and she should give us dates when they came here. I mean, does she know what she is talking about? Where did they say the people should move to and they refused? The people were here more than 200 years before the dam was constructed.”
