The Electoral Commission is set to engage with leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) over media accreditation to the various collation centers.

“As a listening Commission we are engaging with the leadership of the Ghana
Journalists Association (GJA) the Ghana Independent Association (GIBA) on the issue and trust that we will arrive at an arrangement that is both workable and acceptable”.

According to a statement by the commission, it wants to ensure peace and orderliness at it collation centers across the country, hence their decision to give out a number of quotas to the association.

“the Commission is mindful of the need to ensure an orderly and peaceful process at all the Collation Centres hence the quotas on the number of persons who can access the Collation Centres at any given time”.

The Commission mentioned that, they are confident that the engagement with the leadership of the GJA and GIBA will lead to acceptable outcomes.

“The Commission is keen on ensuring the highest level of transparency in its operations, hence the opening up of all its Constituency, Regional and National Collation Centres to the Media”.

The EC statement comes in the wake of a memo directing the Commission’s staff at the District and Regional levels, to select media houses for accreditation to its collation centres.

The memo has received alot of criticism hence the EC’s decision to meet with the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association.
