The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the Council of State elections in the North East and Ashanti Regions will be re-run on Monday, February 17, 2025.

In a statement released on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, said the decision follows a tie in the North East Region, where the two leading candidates each secured six votes. Per electoral regulations, a re-run is required to determine the winner.

Also, in the Ashanti Region, the election could not be concluded due to disruptions caused by unidentified thugs, prompting the need for a fresh vote.

The Commission stated that, to ensure a smooth and secure process, they have formally requested the Ghana Police Service and the National Election Security Taskforce to enhance security at the election venues to prevent further disturbances.

The Commission assured the public of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
