The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is facing a leadership change as Board Chair Keli Gadzekpo has tendered his resignation, effective April 9th, 2024.

In his resignation letter to President Akufo-Addo, Mr. Gadzekpo cited personal reasons for his departure. He wished ECG and the government continued success in their efforts to provide stable electricity for the nation.

Mr. Gadzekpo’s resignation comes at a critical juncture for Ghana’s energy sector. The ECG has been under fire for persistent power outages, particularly in the Greater Accra Region. This ongoing crisis has sparked calls for a load-shedding timetable, which the ECG has so far resisted.

Appointed to the ECG Board in 2017, Mr. Gadzekpo’s role focused on ensuring energy sufficiency for Ghana. He brought a wealth of experience to the table, having played a key role in establishing and growing several successful companies.

Notably, he is credited with the growth of the Databank Group, which includes Databank Asset Management Services and Databank Epack Investment Fund Ltd.

Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavours, Mr. Gadzekpo boasts over two decades of experience in investment banking. He currently serves as the Board Chairman of Enterprise Group and continues to lead the Databank Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Databank Group.

Mr. Gadzekpo holds an impressive academic background. An alumnus of Achimota School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the USA.

He further pursued a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he was a Mason Fellow.
