The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to deploy franchise officers to all its district operational areas nationwide, effective February 2026, as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and improve customer service delivery.
In a statement, ECG said the franchise officers will be responsible for reading postpaid meters and checking the integrity of prepaid meters, as well as distributing postpaid bills to customers.
The officers will also print bills for postpaid customers using handheld devices under a spot billing system.
Additionally, the franchise officers will assist customers to pay their bills through the ECG Power App or by using the short code *226#, stressing that no cash payments will be accepted.
Customers with accounts in arrears may also be disconnected, while any form of illegality identified during operations will be reported to the appropriate authorities for action.
ECG has advised customers to verify the identity of franchise officers by requesting their official ID cards.
The officers will also carry signed authorization letters, including contact numbers of their respective district offices, to confirm their mandate to operate within the assigned areas.
According to ECG, the franchise initiative is aimed at bringing its services directly to the doorsteps of customers and improving efficiency across its operations.
