Happy 98.9 FM has once again engaged with editors of newspapers on the special edition of ‘Editors’ Take’ on the Happy Morning Show on the developments ahead of the 2020 elections.

This latest edition which hosted Editor of the Custodian Newspaper, Awudu Mahama and Editor of the Patriot Newspaper Peter Banfoe, focused on the presidential candidates for the major political parties and their promises ahead of the 2020 elections.

Editor of the Patriot Newspaper, Peter Banfoe lauded the National Democratic Congress and its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama for showing dedication to the promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“In our country, a lot of emphasis has been placed on formal education. Meanwhile there is an essential part of this sector we are refusing to give attention to, which is technical and vocational education. The only government in the history of this country, under the fourth republic that has given so much attention to technical and vocational education, is the NDC government”.

He was very confident that ex-president Mahama will implement the free TVET programme when voted into power.

Awudu Mahama, Editor of the Custodian Newspaper, was however of the view that by the time Mahama comes into power, Nana Addo would have implemented the free TVET programme. “By September, TVET education will be free. There is a deputy minister in charge of TVET and structures have been put in place to ensure free TVET. By the time Mahama comes to power, Nana Addo would have already implemented the TVET show”, he said.

Furthering his point, Awudu stated that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has shown unparalleled commitment to education by introducing the Free SHS policy. He was thus confident that the party will do all it can to ensure that it scraps the much-talked-about double-track system by the end of the year to ensure a smooth running of the Free SHS.

“By the end of this year, the double-track system will be off because of the infrastructure put in place by this government in all the schools. It is about how you tackle the problem. If you are determined to fulfil your promises, you will find the means to do so”.

So far, the segment has touched on issues such as the delay of manifestos by political parties, the strength and weaknesses of political parties’ campaign teams, the NPP’s 2016 manifesto, among others. The ‘Editor’s Take’ segment airs every Monday morning on the Happy Morning Show (HMS).
