Outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for the Adentan Constituency, Yaw Buaben Asamoa has assured Ghanaians that the election petition submitted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will in no way forestall the development of Ghana.

According to him, just like it happened in 2012, President Akufo-Addo will also keep on undertaking his duties as President of the country whilst the petition is being addressed by the court of law.

He added that in the wisdom of the Supreme Court, it has also given a specific period of time for which an election petition will be heard to prevent any delays to waste time and tax payers money.

Addressing concerns of the election petition filed by the NDC and its possibility of affecting the development of Ghana, the lawyer said,
“The election petition will not affect the state of development in Ghana. During the election petition in 2012, the President never came to the court. He didn’t wait for the court to make its pronouncement before undertaking his duties”.

He made this known in an interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Sefah-Danquah on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show.

The politician assured Ghanaians of President Akufo-Addo’s constant commitment towards the development of Ghana through his various sound policies.

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has formally filed a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the December 7, 2020, presidential elections.

The lawsuit follows weeks of street protests over alleged voter fraud and irregularities in the just-ended polls.

The suit was filed today, Wednesday, December 30, 2020, by former President Mahama’s lawyers following the party‘s audit of the 2020 Presidential results “and extensive consultations with the National Executive Committee and Council of Elders of the party”
