The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has declared Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, owner of Sesi-Edem Company Limited, a person of interest in an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud and money laundering involving tens of millions of cedis.

The development follows a petition filed in November 2025 by J.G Resources Ltd and Unigold Trading LLC, accusing the company of defrauding them under the pretext of supplying 50 kilograms of gold valued at GH¢57.7 million.

EOCO is probing the company for suspected offences including defrauding by false pretences and money laundering under the Economic and Organised Crime Act, 2010 (Act 804), the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).

Investigators revealed that Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple was formally invited in November 2025 to assist with the probe but failed to honour the invitation, leading to his designation as a wanted person to aid investigations.

Preliminary findings further showed that the company’s bank account allegedly contained suspected proceeds of crime. EOCO subsequently froze the account, a move confirmed on January 30, 2026, to prevent the possible dissipation of funds.

Sesi-Edem Company Limited later challenged the freeze in court in February, seeking to overturn the order.

However, EOCO maintained that the application did not fully consider legal provisions that permit authorities to preserve suspected proceeds of crime while investigations are ongoing.

The Office clarified that neither the company nor its owner has been formally charged, stressing that the matter remains under investigation.

EOCO also indicated that directors of the company have failed to comply with lawful requests to appear before investigators, warning that legal steps will be taken to locate and arrest them if necessary.
