Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, Irene Naa Torshie has said that measures have been put in place to ensure equipment shared under the DRIP programme will not be used for galamsey activities.

According to Irene Naa Torshie, her outfit has put trackers and other gadgets in the Caterpillars, Bulldozers, and Concrete Mixers to ensure they are used for its intended purposes.

She told Happyghana.com that the Bulldozers and others can be reomotely stoppee from moving if discovered to be moving towards galamsey sites.

“We have trackers and other gadgets in all the equipments we will be giving to the MMDAs and they can’t use it for galamsey or any other illegal activity because we will see it and stop it from our operating base here in Accra,” she said.

President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, launched the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) as parts of efforts to decentralize roads infrastructure projects.

The equipment, distributed to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), is a result of the Ghana-China trade collaboration.  President Akufo-Addo also thanked China for the partnership which aims to improve livelihoods.
